Similarities Between Mesopotamian And Ancient Mesopotamia

Introduction During the Third Early Dynastic Period the Mesopotamian region flourished with wealth, knowledge and art. The the sub-regions and their city states reached the height of their glory, especially in the region of Sumer. In turn, Mesopotamian religion began to shift drastically. This can be shown in the Great Lyre, from the Royal Tomb of Ur, Stele of Naram-sin, from Sipper, Babylon, and Law Code of Hammurabi, which was also caved in Babylon as well. All three pieces of art are very different and are from different parts of Mesopotamia. However, they all have one main thing in common; the Great Lyre, the Stele of Naram-sin, and the Law Code of Hammurabi show the hierarchical shift and rise of the sun god, Utu. History The Mesopotamians had many gods and goddess. Sometimes their names vary and change but they are singularly represented in the same manner. Unlike some cultures in history, the Mesopotamian people took religion seriously, and believed heavily in the â€Å"immortal soul† and afterlife. The Sumerian region was a prime example of how religion was important. They became an example for other sub-regions for years to come. Sumer was considered the first great Mesopotamian civilization. Each city-state in Sumer had a tutelary deity that they built temples, and ziggurats too. As Mesopotamian cultures continued most city-states had patron deities.
